The magnificent beaches at Carrigart, Downings, Portnablagh,
Dunfanaghy, Portsalon and Rathmullan are all within 40 mins drive time. Boats can be chartered at most of these villages and the area has some of the finest golf links in the country.
Letterkenny, Donegal's largest town, with its shops, cinema, theatre,
indoor children's adventure playground and public swimming pool, is just a
10 min drive away.
Foxhall Woods
Stablewoods holiday cottages are located on the old Foxhall estate which includes 100 acres of private woods. The woods are made up of native Irish species of trees including ash, hazel, birch, holly, oak and alder. Guests of Stablewoods cottages can make full use of the woods to enjoy walks in a private setting.
New Mills (5 minutes drive)
The New Mills Corn and Flax Mills are located on the banks of the River Swilly just 5 minutes drive from the holiday cottages. The Mills are fully operational and are open to the public. The oldest of the buildings are said to be 400 years old
Glenveagh National Park
Here within a late 19th century setting in a rugged and remote mountain valley, Henry McIlhenny from Philadelphia created one of the most celebrated gardens in Ireland. Woodland gardens and pleasure grounds, an Italian terrace with antique sculpture and terracotta pots, are all skilfully interwoven against the wild and beautiful Donegal landscape.
The cottage is only a 15min drive from the park.
The Glebe House and Gallery
Located at Churchill, Letterkenny, the Glebe House is a Regency house set in woodland gardens beside Lake Gartan. The Glebe is decorated with William Morris wallpapers and textiles and has Islamic and Japanese art. The Derek Hill permanent collection includes 300 works by leading 20th century artists, including Picasso and Kokosha, as well as Irish and Italian artists.
Colmcille Heritage Centre (6 minutes drive)
Located at Gartan, Churchill, Letterkenny, this centre houses a unique interpretative exhibition featuring the life and times of Saint Colmcille (Columba) - Patriarch of the Irish monastic system and founder of the Scottish Church. The exhibition is housed in a beautiful stone building on the shores of Lough Gartan, within the Derryveagh mountain range
