Ardara

Ardara and the surrounding area is very popular with visitors who return each year to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of this wonderful part of Donegal. It offers the walking enthusiast the opportunity to discover one of the few remaining unspoiled landscapes in Europe. Whether by following way-marked (signposted) routes or simply your instinct, the visitor can explore a region that is truly breathtaking in its beauty and splendour. For the golfing enthusiast the delightful 18 hole golf course at Narin and Portnoo is just over 5 km away and for the amateur golfer there is an 18 hole Pitch ‘n Putt course at Sandfield.

The angler is spoilt for choice with a variety of great fishing spots along the coastline. The Owenea River is one of the best salmon and sea-trout rivers and is situated just north of Ardara. Horse-riding is available at Castleview farm, Loughros Point, so why not breathe in the crystal clear air of Donegal as you go trekking on horseback along quiet highways and byways. It is a perfect way to unwind, relax and forget the hectic lifestyle that many of us endure these days.

Ardara Town itself is a traditional centre for weaving and knitwear production. Its historical importance has been recognised in the granting of Heritage status to the town. The visitor will find a number of excellent restaurants in the locality as well as friendly pubs – several of which feature traditional music sessions.

Ardara also hosts a number of festivals and other organised events throughout the year catering for almost every taste. These include a Bluegrass Festival, the Ardara Agriculture Show, the Cup O’Tae Festival, the Donegal Harvest Rally, an International Walking Festival - and weekends for traditional dancing and match-making.
