Mountain Views - Gortahork

The cottage is located in the northwest of Donegal and makes an ideal base for your family self catering holiday. The village of Gortahork is 3km to the east of the cottage and the fabulous sandy beach at Magheroarty is also 3km away.

This extra spacious home has 5 bedrooms, one of which doubles as a playroom complete with pool table. The cottage enjoys views of the Donegal hills including Errigal and Muckish.

North West Donegal

All around The Cottage you will find rugged peninsulas, clean beaches and towering mountains. The visitor will find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk. West Donegal is famous for its natural beauty - from the majesty of Glenveagh National Park to the wild Atlantic views along Bloody Foreland. Magheraroarty Strand is a popular venue for windsurfing. There are 2 golf courses within a 15 minute drive of the holiday cottage - at Falcarragh and Dunfanaghy.

Tory and Inishbofin Islands

A short drive from The cottage will take you to Magheroarty harbour. At the pier there are regular ferries to both Inishbofin (10 minute boat trip) and to Tory.

Inishbofin is a small, enchanting island far removed from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. It has beautiful white sandy beaches and unusual cliffs and caves. The island is a birdwatcher’s delight, supporting a population of the rare and elusive corncrake, while large numbers of barnacle geese fly in from the Arctic each autumn to remain for the winter.
Tory Island is 9 miles off the mainland. It has been inhabited since the earliest times and is rich in archaeological and monastic sites and includes the remains of a round tower. Tory is famous for its school of ‘primitive’ painters who were encouraged by the internationally famous painter, the late Derek Hill.

• Take a trip around the spectacular Bloody Foreland
• Enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches in the locality - at Magheroarty itself and at nearby Falcarragh
• Golf at Falcarragh, Gweedore and Dunfanaghy - all within a half hours drive of the holiday home
• Visit Dunlewey Lakeside Centre - Facilities include restaurant, tea-room, craft shop, adventure play areas, pets & animals, storytelling, boat trips on Dunlewey Lake, guided tours and weaving demonstrations.
• Take a day trip to Tory Island or Inishbofin Island. The ferry service to Tory Island is available from Derryconnor several times a day - weather permitting
• Climb Muckish and Errigal. Mount Errigal, the highest mountain in Donegal is a demanding climb and once on the summit you can see for miles around.
• Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, wood and bogs. Glenveagh contains the largest red deer population in Europe. Within the National Park Glenveagh Castle and gardens are well worth a visit on their own
• Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk. Slí an Earagail - a Bealach na Gaeltachta Waymarked Way - passes through the locality

The living room features an open fireplace and is equipped with tv and dvd. There is a selection of board games for the kids. The large windows enable lovely views of Errigal and Muckish, the surrounding countryside and the hills of north west Donegal.

The 5th bedroom is a games room which consists of a pool table, bar, 2 & 3 seater sofa along with a 2 seater bed settee. There are also 2 camp beds - this room would sleep 4 children.

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro200/200 stg per week - with balance to be paid 6 weeks prior to the letting period.
