The house is 2 mins walk to the centre of Carrick village where there is a good selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. Carrick has a rich cultural history and is renowned as a centre for traditional Irish music and fiddle playing in the South West Donegal style. During the Bank Holiday in October (26-29 October 2007) Carrick plays host to an annual fiddle festival where some of the most gifted musicians in Ireland come to play.
The archaeology of the Glencolmcille area (4 miles away) is world renowned for the highest density of monolithic stones in Western Europe. There is also a folk village museum and a newly opened golf course.
It is an ideal location to base a fishing holiday, with the Glen River and Yellow River only a short stroll from the house. Day passes for salmon fishing can be purchased locally. Boats trips leave every two hours from the nearby port of Teelin, and there are many local spots for shore fishing.
Close to the Glengesh Way, it is an ideal base for hill walking or touring. The Blue Flag Fintra Beach is a 15 minute drive. Attractions such as Glengesh, Sliabh Liag, Muckross Head, Malin Beag are all within easy access.
Activities in the immediate area include an equestrian centre featuring an indoor arena. For the marine enthusiast there is sea angling charters (including tuna charters), scuba diving, and marine sightseeing tours – these are based in Killybegs, Teelin and Donegal Town.
For the golfer the cottage is ideally situated for playing the great links courses of south Donegal including the Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh, Glencolmcille, Narin & Portnoo and Bundoran.
Those who simply want to enjoy the natural beauty of this part of Ireland will be spoilt for choice - from the windswept St. John’s peninsula to the spectacular sea cliffs at Slieve Liag and from the majestic Blue Stack Mountains to the beautiful beaches at Fintra and Glencolmcille. Lovers of good food will not be disappointed either - there are many excellent restaurants throughout the locality
