Teach Nancy is a large holiday cottage with four
bedrooms and a capacity to sleep up to fourteen. It is recently built,
and the grounds have just been landscaped. There are two upstairs
bedrooms, each with an en-suite, two downstairs bedrooms, a playroom
that can serve as an extra bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, separate dining
room, a lounge with an open fireplace, utility room, hallway and a
spacious landing area.
The kitchen is fully fitted with all the usual
modern appliances; and bed linen, towels, central heating and
electricity are all included.
The cottage lies on an
elevated section of a low hill, and enjoys superb
views overlooking an inlet known as Ballyness Bay, Finlays Bar (not a
pub), and the Dooey Peninsula; - the landward side of the fabulous
Magheroarty Beach. It is situated about 1.5km north west of the village of Gortahork, on a
side road off the main coastal road (R257) just after it branches off
the main N56, where it turns south, towards Gweedore.
Gortahork (Gort a' Choirce) lies in the north west of county Donegal,
and the name comes from the Irish for ' the field of the oats'. It lies
in the Irish speaking 'Gaeltacht'; and with Falcarragh, forms part of
the district known as Cloughaneely. Although off the beaten track, it is
lively at night, with good restaurants, a world famous traditional pub
Teach Billie, a Pizza/Piano Wine Bar & Amharclann Uí Shearcaigh (Theatre
O Searcaigh).
Gortahork has been home to the
'Guth Gafa Documentary Film Festival'
since 2006. The festival runs in May, and in its first year screened 30
films from 15 different countries. There are two supermarkets, a post
office, a florist and a craft shop. Two hotels; - Óstán an Bear Mór with
a bar and gourmet restaurant, and Óstán Loch Altan; a newly refurbished
40-bedroom hotel.
Donegal/Carrickfinn Airport is just ten miles away.
If looking at breathtaking scenery, chatting with local people about
bygone years, walking on miles & miles of golden beaches, and passing
nights of music & craic in local pubs is for you, then Gortahork is your
natural choice.
Activities:
Being so close to the coast, one can not fail to mention that
Magheroarty Beach is one of Irelands prime kite and windsurfing
locations.
Anglers will have a great choice of many lakes and rivers in the area; -
and there are plentiful supplies of fish in the surrounding sea.
Golfers will find excellent links courses at Falcarragh (3km),
Dunfanaghy (12km), and Gweedore (12km).
Walking and Climbing: with Mt Errigal & Muckish close by, climbers may
want to try both! A favourite walk is from the foot of Mt Errigal to the
shores of Lough Altan. Several organised walks take place throughout the
year.
Attractions:
Beaches; especially Magheroarty and Falcarragh.
Tory Island; - take the ferry from the Magheroarty Pier.
Glenveigh National Park. Dunlewy activity centre. Ards Forest Park. -
and 'much more'... |
