The cottage is an ideal base to explore the natural beauty of West Donegal. Local activities in the Bunbeg area include fishing (freshwater and deep sea), golf,  swimming and  hill walking - Errigal and the Derryveagh mountains are only 15 minutes drive away. There are a number of fine beaches in the locality. A trip to one of the local islands - Gola, Tory or Inishbofin - is a great way to spend a day.

Teach Roíse is located in the heart of Donegal's main Gaeltacht area - enabling the visitor to absorb the culture and heritage of this unique region where Irish is still the main everyday language.

Ionad Cois Locha is a heritage centre founded and run by local people, which explores aspects of the tradition of this part of Donegal including traditional music and the Irish language. Among the activities available at Ionad Cois Locha are boat trips on Dunlewey Lake, storytelling, a children's petting zoo, tweed weaving demonstrations as well as a lake side footpath
