Teach Thuathail ::

Tariff 2008

Teach Thuathail is a newly built holiday home; - just waiting for its first tenants. It is a stunning three bedroom detached cottage that can sleep six. The ground floor has an entrance hall, kitchen, utility room, dining area, lounge with an open fireplace, a bedroom and a bathroom. Upstairs, there is a landing and two bedrooms, each with an en-suite. Outside, the property has been newly landscaped, and the house has a kerbed and  gravelled driveway and surround.

The cottage is situated in Ranafast very close to the village of Annagary, which is also in a larger area known as the 'Rosses', and is part of the 'Gaeltacht' or predominantly Irish speaking area of West Donegal.

The Irish Language is spoken by most locals and the area remains dedicated to the Irish culture. Every summer Ranafast is filled with students from other parts of Ireland who come to the area, stay with local families and improve their Irish language skills. The Irish college in the area is called Coláiste Bhríde (St. Brigid's College) Famous locals include writers Séamus Ó Grianna and Seosamh Mac Grianna, and musicians Skara Brae.

The name (Rosses) comes from the Irish 'Ros'; for headland. The area includes the towns of Annagary, Kincasslagh, Ranafast, Dungloe, Doochary and Lettermacaward; - as well as the inhabited islands of Arranmore, Inisfree, Iniscoragh, Owey and Cruit. The district has a geography presenting a rocky, almost barren landscape, studded with a myriad of lakes, coastal sea inlets and numerous offshore islands.

With this type of coastline and the abundance of lakes; it goes without saying, that fishing is one of the most popular activities in the area. Fresh water anglers will find that the lakes are well provided with salmon and trout. If you fancy the open seas, then boats can be hired or rented for deep sea angling. Fishing permits, boats, detailed angling maps and guides can all be arranged.

Apart from fishing, other water activities include: Swimming, sailing, surfing and sub-aqua diving.
There is golf, which can be played at a number of courses, and then there is Hill walking. With close proximity to the Derryveagh Mountains, you can climb challenging peaks like Errigal, or Muckish; alternatively there are lovely coastal walks along beautiful beaches.

Attractions worth a visit include:
The magnificent Glenveigh National Park, with its mountains, lakes and forests; a herd of red deer and a fairytale castle on the edge of a lake. There are guided tours in the castle, and you can explore the grounds with their wonderful gardens.
There is the family oriented Dunlewy Lakeside Centre, which has many different attractions including a craft shop, tea room, weaving house, boat trips, audio-visuals, farm yard, children's play area, etc.
There are a number of festivals throughout the year, many are to do with fishing, but the big event, not to be missed if you're here at the time; is the annual 'Mary From Dungloe Festival' held in late July. (In Dungloe.)
