Teach Uí Mhurchú - Gortahork

Sea ViewsOpen FireCot & Highchair

Teach Uí Mhurchú lies on an elevated section of a low hill and enjoys superb uninterrupted views of Mount Errigal. It boasts large garden to the front and rear with ample parking for several cars. There is a patio area to the rear which is south facing - ideal for relaxing with friends and a drink, while watching the sunset.

The cottage is fully insulated and has double glazing and oil fired central heating for added comfort. The lounge has a traditional open fireplace. A child safety guard is fitted to the open fire. TV/video/dvd player available as well as a CD player.

The cottage is also within a five min drive of the golden crescent of Magheroarty beach. It is situated about 1.5km north west of the village of Gortahork, on a side road off the main coastal road (R257) just after it branches off the main N56, where it turns south, towards Gweedore.

Surrounding Area

At Magheroarty pier there are regular ferries to both Inishbofin (10 minute boat trip) and to Tory. Inishbofin is a small, enchanting island far removed from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. It has beautiful white sandy beaches and unusual cliffs and caves. The island is a birdwatcher’s delight, supporting a population of the rare and elusive corncrake, while large numbers of barnacle geese fly in from the Arctic each autumn to remain for the winter. Tory Island is 9 miles off the mainland. It has been inhabited since the earliest times and is rich in archaeological and monastic sites and includes the remains of a round tower. Tory is famous for its school of ‘primitive’ painters who were encouraged by the internationally famous painter, the late Derek Hill.

Both Tory and Inisbofin are Irish speaking islands. Indeed the holiday home itself  is located in the heart of  one of Donegal's main Gaeltacht area - enabling the visitor to absorb the culture and heritage of this unique region where Irish is still the main everyday language.

The cottage is close to Errigal Mountain (hillwalking) and the Dunlewey Activity Centre.

Local Attractions

All around Teach Uí Mhurchú you will find rugged peninsulas, clean beaches and towering mountains. The visitor will find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk. West Donegal is famous for its natural beauty - from the majesty of Glenveagh National Park  to the wild Atlantic views along Bloody Foreland.  Magheraroarty Strand is a popular venue for windsurfing. There are 2 golf courses within a 20 minute drive  -  at Falcarragh and Dunfanaghy

This site is a dream to use; it has everything in place in a way that is easy to find. All the information I want is easily accessible and having numerous photos really gives you a good idea of the property. Looked at other sites and after a couple of minutes gave up. Your site has been very well thought through.
