This is a scenic little village set in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht. Visitors to Donegal can now take a step back in time with a visit to the Fintown Railway, the only operational narrow gauge railway in Donegal. The village itself lies along the banks of Lough Finn and is overlooked by Acla and Screig mountains. The district stretches as far as Doochary bridge, over to Shallogans, to Letterbrick bridge and north to Meenatinney bridge. The Fintown Railway is the only operational railway in Co. Donegal. Set amidst spectacular highland scenery overlooking Lough Finn, the railway (3 m/5km) is a restored section of the former County Donegal Railway. This setting prompted the famous international playwright Brian Friel to pronounce “What is on offer is a unique journey along the shores of a lake as grand as any in Switzerland or Minnesota”.
