Warden Cottage is a modern holiday home with a wonderfully scenic location near the popular holiday village of Portsalon in North Donegal. Sheltered by Knockalla Mountain the cottage enjoys sweeping views over the fabulous blue flag Portslon Beach towards Ballymastoker Bay.

The holiday home is on an elevated site  750 metres off the spectacular Knockalla Coast Road. It is just a 10 minute walk from a stunning section of Portsalon ( Warden) beach at the foot of Knockalla Mountain. This section of the beach is becoming increasingly popular for beginner surfers.

Just 2 km from the holiday home – at the other end of the beach -  is Portsalon village and the superb Portsalon Golf Links. Portsalon village is centred around a very quaint harbour that is overlooked by a pub, restaurant and a water sports centre where kayaks, pedal boats, wetsuits and boogie boards can be hired. A charter boat also operates from the harbour and is available for sea angling and sightseeing on Lough Swilly.

Portsalon Golf Club

A 2 minute walk from the harbour brings you to Portsalon Golf Club . Established in 1891 and a founder members of the Golfing Union of Ireland Portsalon offers all visitors a warm Donegal welcome and a truly testing round of golf. The course has been lengthened from less than 6,000 yards to more than 7,000 from the back tees, with a consequent adjustment in the par from 68 to 72. Portsalon Golf Club in now rated in the top 50 golf courses in Ireland (Golf Digest). With the new Mulroy Bridge Linking the Fanad and Rosguill Peninsulas the two superb links couseses at Rosapenna are now just over 20 km from Portsalon.

The Fanad Peninsula

Portsalon is located on the Fanad Peninsula. This beautiful peninsula stretches north from the village of Milford  via Kerrykeel to Fanad Head and back down to the heritage village of Ramelton via Rathmullan. It contains numerous bays, glorious beaches, rugged mountains, rolling hills and numerous small lakes.

About 12km north of Warden Cottage, on the northern shores of the peninsula, is Ballyhiernan Bay. A beautiful unspoilt sandy beach skirts this bay. This beach is the location of the Adventure One Surf School  - the leading ISA (Irish Surfing Association) approved school on the north coast of Donegal. Close by is the impressive Fanad Lighthouse which guards the mouth of Lough Swilly.  The Meadows Trout fishery in Rosnakill  is located 5km west of the holiday home. The fishery is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from 2 to 10 pounds.

Mulroy Bridge

The Mulroy Bridge linking the Fanad and Rosguill Peninsulas makes it much easier for visitors to the holiday home to access attractions such as the Atlantic Drive, Ards Forest Park and the spectacular  Horn Head Peninsula.

There are a number of worthwhile day trips that can be enjoyed from the holiday home.  These include the Dunlewey Lakeside Centre, the magnificent Glenveagh National Park and Letterkenny - Donegals main shopping town that also has a multi-screen cinema, karting track, theatre, county library and museum and the modern Aura leisure centre.

What they say

Can I also take this opportunity to say how helpful and user friendly your website is - it is certainly a plus for Donegal. I became aware of it through a friend who has booked a house in Ballyliffin for a number of us attending a wedding in the area in the summer.
