
Wood Park House is a modern holiday home located in the townland of Letterilly 3 km outside the town of Glenties. The holiday home is situated on the main road between Glenties and the popluar seaside villages of Narin and Portnoo. The fabulous Blue Flag Beach at Narin and the renowned Narin & Portnoo Golf Links are just 8 km drive away.
The holiday home is set in a landscape of gentle rolling hills and small woodlands. It is a short distance from the Gwebaara River and Estuary. The Gweebarra is a 35km long river flowing from Lough Barra to Gweebarra Bay and includes 10 miles of estuarine water. The river runs through some beautiful scenery and is one of the most picturesque in the country. It has good fishing in the summer months for both salmon and sea trout
The nearby town of Glenties itself has won Irelands Tidiest Town award on no less than 5 occasions. This, together with abundance of amenities for both active and passive pursuits, makes the town and its environs a popular destination for tourists to the North West of Ireland. Glenties has been described as a fisherman's paradise. The Owenea River runs through the town and is famous for its salmon and trout fishing. The surrounding hills are dotted with numerous lakes filled with trout, the best know being Loch Anna
Glenties lies at the north west edge of the Blue Stack Mountains and a few miles from the sea. It is sheltered by mountains on three of its four sides. Only on its western side does the valley widen out as it approaches the Atlantic Ocean. The glens and mountains around the town contain numerous scenic walks and drives which the visitor can enjoy by car, bicycle or foot.
This part of Donegal has always been noted for its strong tradition of traditional Irish music and Glenties has a flourishing traditional music school. To experience this tradition at its best, visit the town on the first weekend of October when the "Fiddlers Weekend" attracts fiddlers from many parts of Ireland and around the world.
The Patrick MacGill Summer School is held in Glenties in the second week of August each year when the town pays tribute to it's renowned Navvy Poet. The lively Harvest Fair Festival is held on the second week of September and is a great time to visit the area as it celebrates this traditional "fair" in true Donegal style.
The holiday home is an ideal central base to tour South West Donegal. Immediately to the west is the Dawros Peninsula. In addition to Naran this peninsula has a number of fine beaches including Tramore near Rosbeg. It also has a number of ancient momunents including the renowned Kilclooney Dolmen and a ring fort on Doon Lake. To the south of the holiday home there is the heritage town of Ardara, the Gaeltacht village of Glencolmcille and Slieve League – the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Historic Donegal Town is just 30 km away. To the east is Lough Finn and Donegals only narrow gauge railway line. To the north is Dungloe and the Rosses – an area famous for its fishing lakes. Dooey Beach is just 12 km from the holiday home and is becoming a popular surfing venue.
Just a little further afield there are a number of worthwhile day trips. These include the Dunlewey Lakeside Centre, the magnificent Glenveagh National Park and Letterkenny - Donegals main shopping town that also has a multi-screen cinema, theatre, county library and museum and the modern Aura leisure centre.
The holiday home has a large kitchen with separate dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances - electric oven and gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freeezer. The floor of the kitchen area is tiled. The dining area has a wood floor and features a dining table and 4 chairs. It also has a tv. An adjacent utility has a washing machine and tumble dryer
The spacious living room looks out over the front lawn towards the hills of Letterilly townland. The rooom has an open fireplace and is comfortably furnished. For home entertainment there is a tv, dvd player and cd stereo.
The holiday home has 5 spacious double bedrooms to comfortable accommodate 10 people.
There is a bathroom on the ground floor with bath and separate shower and a shower room on the first floor.
Double doors lead from the dining area into the sun room / conservatory. This room is comfortably furnished and enjoys both hill and woodland views. There is a patio area outside the sun room and a large lawn to the front of the house.
