Biddy's Cottage is a recently refurbished one bedroom thatched cottage located halfway between the towns of Culdaff and Malin. The cottage provides for a unique self catering experience in a peaceful setting and is an ideal base to explore the rugged beauty of the Inishowen Peninsula.
Situated on 8 acres of land this idyllic cottage has a beautiful long winding lane on the approach. It has a huge garden with an edging of rocks . On the garden there is a horse roller, potato digger and a set of settled harrows all aged over 100 years old. At the back of the cottage is a rockery to add some features to the cottage.
The very traditional thatched exterior of the cottage gives way to more modern comforts inside. There is one bedroom with a double and single bed as well as a wet room with toilet and sink. The main living space has sitting, kitchen and dining areas with a cosy solid fuel stove providing a warm focal point.
Biddys cottage is within easy driving distance from some of the main tourist towns on the Inishowen Peninsula – Culdaff (3km), Malin Town (3km), Ballyliffin (13km) and Clonmany (15km). The cottage is 6km from Carndonagh , 18km from Moville on the shores of Lough Foyle and 25km from Buncrana on the shores of Lough Swilly. The cottage is also centrally located between some of the finest beaches on the Inishowen Peninsula including Culdaff, Five Finger Strand, Pollan Beach and Kinnego Bay.
The nearby coastal resort of Culdaff has a fabulous Blue Flag sandy beach, which is about 1km in length, and lies between Dunmore Head to the east and the little fishing harbour known as Bunagee Pier on its western side. The beach car park has a well equipped and safe children's play area next to it. Fishing charters operate from Bunagee Pier.
Malin Town is located on the shores of Trawbrega Bay. There are several equestrian centres in and around Malin. 5 Km north of the town is the wonderful Five Finger Strand which is bordered by the largest sand dunes in Europe at Lagg. This magnificent sandy beach looks out to the landmark Glashedy Rock and onwards to the Atlantic Ocean.
The holiday cottage is 18km from Banbas Crown on Malin Head - Ireland’s most northerly point and a Signature Point on Irelands Wild Atlantic Way driving route. The landscape in this part of Inishowen is very scenic and features several quaint harbours and beaches including Port Ronan and Portmor. Look out for the Old Curiosity shop on the coast road near Banbas Crown
The internationally renowned Ballyliffin Golf Club is just 12km from the cottage and features two championship links courses – The Old Course and the Glashedy Course . Ballyliffin has been described as “the Ballybunion of the North” – and its not hard to see why. The golf links covers 365 acres of magnificent duneland and is bounded by rolling hills and mountains – the only other boundary is the Atlantic Ocean. There are also scenic golf courses at Redcastle (19km), Greencastle (24km) and at at Lisfannon near Buncrana (28km). There is a top class childrens leisure and activity centre in Redcastle .
A major tourist attraction in the locality is the Doagh Famine Village on Doagh Island (15km). The Famine Village is an outdoor museum that tells the story of life in the area from the Famine back in the 1840s, through the 1900s to the present day. The museum features original thatched dwellings, an Irish wake, an eviction scene, Presbyterian Meeting House, Orange Lodge and Republican Safe House. At Christmas time the museum turns into Santa’s Island.
The cottage has one bedroom that can sleep 3 people. There is a double and a single bed. The cottage bathroom is an open wet room, with an electric shower, sink and a toilet.
The main living space in the cottage features living, kitchen and dining areas. A warm focal point is provided by a solid fuel stove which creates a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. For home entertainment there is a tv and dvd player.
The cottage kitchen has some original features and also includes some modern comforts such as cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, washing machine, and fridge freezer. The kitchen has a dining area with a table and 4 chairs.
