Nestling in a tranquil rural setting in the foothills of the Bluestack Mountains, Friary Brae is only 0.5km from Ardnamona Nature Reserve which features an abundance of indigenous wildlife and hundreds of acres of natural oak woodland.
Lough Eske is famed for its superb salmon, trout and char fishing and a winding country lane leads downhill from Friary Brae Cottage to the Lough Eske Fishing Centre. To fully appreciate the wonderful vistas it is recommended that you take the Lough Eske Drive which circumnavigates the lough and affords some breathtaking panoramas.
Donegal Town is very popular during the summer months, and it is a gateway to the southern part of County Donegal. There are many fine, sandy beaches in the area boasting some of the best surfing conditions in Western Europe. Donegal is also used as a base for hill-walking in the nearby Bluestack Mountains.
Visitors to Donegal Town will be able to purchase the world famous Donegal Tweed which you can also see woven in the Magee Shop on the Diamond. Belleek China and Celtic Weave China can be obtained too. You can also enjoy guided tours in the nearby towns where this china is produced. Here you can see first hand the skills that go into the creation of these crafts. In Donegal town there is an excellent range of craft shops and high quality souvenir outlets selling tweed, hand knits, lace, porcelain and china.
Donegal Golf Club on the Murvagh peninsula in Donegal Bay, hence it is generally known as Murvagh, just six miles from Donegal Town, one mile off the N15 on the south side. The links is isolated from the outside world by a forest of evergreens washed on one side by the great Atlantic Ocean and with a panoramic view of the Bluestack Mountains.
The spacious dining area of Friary Brae holiday home flows naturally from the kitchen area and enjoys panoramic views over Lough Eske and the surrounding countryside. This area features a natural stone fireplace with log/turf burning stove adding a warm focal point (perfect for chilly late autumn or winter evenings). In addition to being centrally heated throughout the house also features a cast iron open fireplace in the living room.
Friary Brae Cottage can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms. Three of these bedrooms have lovely views over the surrounding woodland and farmland to the nearby waters of Lough Eske.
