Heather cottage is a cosy 3 bedroom holiday home situated on a small working farm near the shores of Killoughcarron Lake. The surrounding countryside is dominated by the majestic Muckish Mountain. The cottage itself is ideal for a self-catering family holiday or a quiet country retreat - the large field around the house is a safe playground for children.
The holiday home is located just two miles from Creeslough Village. The Irish word Creeslough means The Belt of Lakes - a reference to the many lakes that surround the village. Creeslough is the home of the famous Bridie Gallagher - The First Lady of Irish Song - and the local festival held every summer is dedicated to her.
The cottage has a very central location on the North Donegal coast - it is 6 miles from Dunfanaghy, 7 miles from Carrigart and 10 miles from Downings. Letterkenny - which is Donegal\'s largest town - is only 16 miles away and offers a wide range of retail outlets, cinema, theatre, restaurants, banks, hospital, etc
There are few areas of Ireland which enjoy such an unspoilt environment with a wealth of opportunity for open-air activities. In addition to the beautiful beaches at Downings, Dunfanaghy and Marble Hill, the entire region is a fisherman’s paradise with trout and salmon lakes and rivers.
Within half an hour of the cottage, there are a number of spectacular coastal drives including the Atlantic Drive, Lough Salt Drive and the coastal road around Horn Head.
Rock and mountain climbing are popular in this spectacular landscape with Errigal, Muckish and the Derryveagh mountains all easily reachable. Windsurfing, water-skiing, sub aqua, canoeing and sailing are popular activities in the general locality.
For the golf enthusiast there are four 18 hole courses - at Rosapenna, Dunfanaghy and Carrigart. Horse-riding, cycling, hill walking and painting are ever popular in this beautiful area. A herd of native red deer roams the mountains and valleys in the nearby 10,000 hectares Glenveagh National Park, famed for its castle, lakes, formal gardens, exotic plants and rare birds - including the recently reintroduced golden eagle.
In the more immediate locality of the holiday home, you will find the famous Lackagh Bridge, the historic Doe Castle and the enchanting Ards Forest Park. The historical Owencarron Viaduct is also close by.
Cutting the Corn in Creeslough Today was penned by one of Ireland most noted poet and song writer - Percy French - and has made Creeslough a familiar name well beyond Ireland's shores.
While staying at Heather Cottage you can walk through green fields and listen to the everyday sounds of a working farm. The land around the house is a fantastic playground for children with trees to climb and lots of open space to run around in. The holiday home is an excellent base for a range of outdoor activities. It’s also the perfect location for a relaxing getaway.
The bright and cosy living room of Heather Cottage is simply yet tastefully decorated and furnished. For home entertainment, there is a TV and DVD. The solid fuel stove gives a warm feeling to the room.
The bright and spacious kitchen and dining area of the holiday home is a modern extension to the original cottage. The large windows and patio style doors provide wonderful countryside views. The visitor can sit back here observe the gentle activity of a small working farm. In the kitchen part of this large room you will find the following equipment:
In an adjoining utility room, there is also a washing machine and tumble dryer
The cottage has two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom. Adjacent to these bedrooms is a bathroom with bath and overhead electric shower.

The cottage is in such a good position for making the most of the sun. But my favourite bit is the peace and quiet, to sit and hear nothing but birds and sheep etc is lovely.
We are looking forward to our next trip in a few weeks.
