Kitty's Cottage - Doochary

Kittys Cottage is a renovated traditional Irish cottage set in a picture postcard setting just outside the small village of  Doochary in Co Donegal. The cottage lies just south west of the magnificent Glenveagh National Park and the Derryveagh Mountain range provide a spectacular backdrop to the holiday home. The  Gweebarra – a renowned fishing river – flows through rugged terrain just 200 metres behind the cottage.

The cottage has been built on the site of an old Irish farm cottage with the exterior kept very close to the original design. The traditional half door leads you into a bright modern cottage that provides comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. The main living area has a high ceiling which gives a wonderful sense of space to the area. There are 3 bedrooms – 2 doubles and a bedroom with bunk beds. The stylish  kitchen and dining area enjoys  wonderful views towards the Derryveagh Mountains.

Surrounding Area

Kittys Cottage is located just ½ km from the quaint village of Doochary. Doochary is situated at a point where a bridge crosses the Gweebarra River. Licences can be obtained locally to fish this famous river. The village is situated in the heart of West Donegal and is surrounded by rugged mountains, deep glens and numerous lakes – every turn on the road in this beautiful area can unfold a new and stunning landscape.

The area around Kittys Cottage is wonderful walking terrain. A link to Sli na Finne actually passes the front of the cottage. Sli Na Finne  is a section of the Bealach na Gaeltachta Waymarked Way and it provides the most beautiful scenery and exhilarating walking imaginable. Sli na Rossan is also in the locality. At nearby Glenveagh National Park roaming deer can be observed in the unspoilt countryside.

Local Attractions

Kittys Cottage is just over 10 km from the town of Dungloe. Dungloe hosts a number of festivals and other organised events throughout the year catering for almost every taste. These include the renowned Mary From Dungloe Festival. There is also a festival dedicated to the  local writer Peadar O'Donnell each autumn. Burtonport has an 8 day summer festival in July each year catering for all age groups

Doochary is located in the West Donegal Gaeltacht. The tradition, culture and language of the area is evident in the way of life of the people, the traditional music in the pubs  and the Irish language spoken by people of the area.

The bright modern fitted kitchen has an attractive range of contemporary units with stylish worktops, and provides all the high quality appliances you would expect – dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and an electric oven and  hob.

  Living Room

The traditional style half door opens into the cottage living area. A high ceiling gives the area a wonderful sense of space. The area features a wood burning stove,very comfortable furniture suite, tv with sky satellite  and a dvd player.

  Bedrooms

The cottage has three bright and tastefully furnished bedrooms - all enjoying lovely countryside views. There are two double bedrooms and a bedroom with bunk beds. The bathroom features a bath with an overhead electric shower

  Dining Area

The dining area features a dining table and 6 comfortable dining chairs. At meal times you can enjoy wonderful views of the Derryveagh Mountains through the glass patio doors.

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro100 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period.
