Mountain climbing and hill walking are popular in this spectacular landscape with Errigal, Muckish and the Derryveagh mountains all easily reachable. Windsurfing, water-skiing, scuba diving, canoeing and sailing are popular activities in the general locality.

For the golf enthusiast, there are four 18-hole courses in the vicinity - one in Dunfanaghy itself, two at Rosapenna and one in Carrigart. Horse-riding, cycling, hill walking and painting are ever popular in this beautiful area. A herd of native red deer roams the mountains and valleys in the nearby 10,000-hectare Glenveagh National Park, famed for its castle, lakes, formal gardens, exotic plants and rare birds - including the recently reintroduced golden eagle.
