Mary Janes Cottage is a newly renovated two bedroom holiday home which overlooks Trawbreaga Bay and the Isle of Doagh on the northwest coast of the Inishowen Peninsula. Located outside Ballyliffin village the holiday home is just over 1km from the internationally renowned Ballyliffin Golf Club. This cosy and homely cottage is within easy driving distance of some of the main towns in Inishowen including Clonmany, Carndonagh, Malin Town and Culdaff.
The holiday cottage is tastefully furnished and decorated throughout. There is a cosy living room with an open fireplace, an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with wood burning stove, two bedrooms, a bathroom and a utility area.
The cottage is the ideal base for the keen golfer. The superb Ballyliffin Golf Club is a few minutes drive away and features two championship links courses – The Old Course and the Glashedy Course . Ballyliffin been described as “the Ballybunion of the North” – and its not hard to see why. The golf links covers 365 acres of magnificent duneland and is bounded by rolling hills and mountains – the only other boundary is the Atlantic Ocean.
The popular family holiday resort of Ballyliffin is less than 2km away. This coastal village is well served with pubs and hotels – the Strand hotel is particularly renowned for its good value food. The fabulous Pollan Strand at Ballyliffin is popular for swimming, surfing and walking as well as being a mecca for sea birds. It has lovely playground at the beach entrance and features a coastal path along its length, ending with the ruins of Carraickabraghy castle.
Just 4km from the holiday home is the Doagh Famine Village on the Isle of Doagh. This wonderful amenity offers a large selection of life size attractions portraying life in Ireland from the 1840s until the present day. The centre is built around and includes original thatched dwellings which were still inhabited up until 1983 by the owners family and your tour guide, Pat Doherty. Some of the Famine Village’s buildings – such as the Orange Hall, Presbyterian Meeting House, Mass Rock and Hedge School and a Republican Safe House – depict the diverse history and culture of this corner of the Inishowen peninsula. Other buildings house information on the travelling community’s culture and other Irish traditions such as food, cures and the “Irish Wake”, a traditional send-off for the dead. Doagh Famine Village is designed to suit Irish weather and is predominantly under cover.
For bird lovers the Trawbreaga Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is right on your doorstep with its selection of southward migrating birds such as Garney and Shearwater. For the enthusiastic walker the countryside around the cottage is a landscape of purple heather, small patchwork fields, streams and glens – ideal rambling terrain. The cottage also lies along the route of the famous Inishowen 100, one of Ireland's most scenic drives. The route includes dramatic coastal scenery plus a fine collection of ancient forts and monuments, traditional craft centres, and a dozen or so friendly villages. Scenic highlights include the Gap of Mamore, and Malin Head - Ireland's most northerly point
Other attractions in the locality include the Glenevin Waterfall near Clonmany, the Fort Dunree Military Museum overlooking Lough Swilly and the Maritime Museum and Planetarium at Greencastle Harbour. In addition to Pollan Strand there are numerous other unspoilt beaches within easy driving distance of the cottage including Tullagh, Leenan, Five Finger Strand and Culdaff. In and around nearby Malin Town there a number of AIRE approved equestrian centres.
Venturing a little further afield there are some major attractions well worth a visit. The Grianan of Aileach is a megalithic stone ringfort on the top of Greenan Hill with stunning views over Lough Swilly and Lough Foyle. Close by is the ancient and historic Walled City of Derry. With a beautiful setting on the steep hills overlooking the wide sweep of the River Foyle, Derry’s distinctive architecture and its famous walls provide enormous appeal. The Tower Museum is well worth a visit. The Greencastle to Magilligan Ferry makes the northern coast of Northern Ireland easily accessible from the cottage. The Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Dunluce Castle are just some of the top attractions in this area.

The cosy living room in the holiday cottage enjoys views over Trawbreaga Bay towards the Isle of Doagh. The room is comfortably furnished with a sofa and 2 armchairs. A flat screen tv is available for home entertainment.
The holiday cottage has a beautiful modern fittted kitchen where everything is close at hand. Appliances available include electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge freezer. A separate utility area has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
A large wood burning stove provides a warm focal point for the sitting and dining areas. The dining area has a fold out table and 4 chairs. The cosy sitting area enjoys sea views. A wall mounted flat sceen tv is also available.
