My grandfather, Samuel Stewart, ran a business in the Lime Kiln up until about the middle of the twentieth century. The process started with the quarrying of Limestone behind the Kiln. The stones were put in the fire pit, and layered to the top with turf before being set alight. It burned continuously for about a week and then left to cool. The Lime, now reduced to powder, was sold all over Donegal to farmers, who spread it on their fields, and to householders who mixed it with water and whitewashed their homes and outbuildings inside and out. The lime was believed to possess antiseptic qualities and was much sought after. My family are now privileged, to see at first hand, the magnificent restoration brought about by the BOND family, and wish them many, many happy years of enjoyment of it.

Good company, beautiful scenery and the unmatched delights of the Lime Kiln are a wonderful tonic. The trials of a busy life style pale into insignificance when one is surrounded by such charm.

If I die today, I’ll have gone happy and totally satisfied” I told Jim while we walked along the perfect little coves and beaches in the Forest Park. We both felt we were seeing the real and timeless beauty of this gorgeous island. The day was bright with clouds but many sun breaks that gave us a feast for our eyes - the multiple shades of green the craggy rocks with purple heather clinging lovingly to them, the sandy soft beaches and the white rock of waves from the Atlantic. I got choked up more than once with the reality that I was really here in Ireland. The land of all my grandparents and theirs before them. Lorna and Ken, you are very dear to us now for you made this perfect day possible for us. Your welcoming generous spirits made us feel comfortable and special right away. Thank you for going “Beyond the beyond” to make our stay the best. The Kiln is unique and comfortable, a total work of artistic talent. Kudos to you both! You showed us a great time at a “Genuine Irish
Pub” and then last night a most lovely country manor restaurant of beautiful surroundings, warm fire, lovely gentle people to unhurried serve us. Thank you for all of it. Waiting now to see you again in Orange Park. Hugs. Kathleen + Jim.

A fantastic finished product. Built with the surrounding environment in mind. If all developments were like this Port-na-blagh would be a much better looking place.
