The Old Cottage - Bunbeg

The cottage is a throwback to a bygone time when life was much slower and quieter. Although all the modern amenities are available the cottage remains a place where nothing has changed. Many old original walls have been stripped back exposing them as they would have been well over one hundred years ago. It's a place to sit back and unwind or a base to come back to after exploring all the magic of Donegal.

Local Area

The pubs and shops in Bunbeg are a short drive away as is the 9-hole Gweedore Golf Club.

Bunbeg itself is a small fishing village with a quaint harbour, set in the heart of the Gweedore Gaeltacht. Both Bunbeg and the neighbouring Derrybeg village are so close they could be mistaken for one another. The Irish Language has survived in this area -  along with much of the traditional Irish Culture that has now been lost to many other areas of the County.

Local Activities / Attractions

• Take a trip around the spectacular Bloody Foreland
• Golf on nearby Gweedore Golf Club – a challenging 9 hole course. 
• Visit Dunlewey Lakeside Centre - Facilities include a restaurant, tea room, craft shop,  adventure play areas, pets & animals, storytelling, boat trips on Dunlewey Lake, guided tours and weaving demonstrations.
• Enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches on your doorstep
• Take a day trip to Tory Island, Inishbofin or Gola Island. The ferry service to Tory Island is available from Bunbeg and Magheraroarty several times a day - weather permitting
• Climb Muckish and Errigal. Mount Errigal, the highest mountain in Donegal is a demanding climb and once on the summit you can see for miles around.
• Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, wood and bogs. Glenveagh contains the largest red deer population in Europe.  Within the National Park Glenveagh Castle and gardens are well worth a visit on their own
• Fish for salmon on the Clady river
• Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk
