The Old School House is situated on the beautiful Carrickfinn Peninsula. This Peninsula is located in North West Donegal and is surrounded by the county's largest Gaeltacht area.The peninsula has a fertile low-lying grassy plain known as a Machair or machar in Gaelic. The unique ecosystem of this grassy plain has led much of Carricfinn to be designated as a Special Area of Conservation and also a Natural Heritage area.
The holiday home is within easy walking distance of the idyllic Boatstrand beach and the fabulous Carrickfinn Blue Flag Beach. It is also a few minutes drive from Donegal Airport which has flights to both Dublin and Glasgow.
The natural landscape of the Carrickfinn peninsula and surrounding coastal region provides the basis for many of the activities that the visitor can enjoy. In addition to an abundance of golden sandy beaches there are many water based activities – including windsurfing and kite surfing, scuba diving, sea angling and boat charters. Locally based Rapid Kayaking offer half day island tours and canoe trips along the coast.
The wider region around Carickfinn has several Waymarked Way walking routes. For hill walkers Mount Errigal and the Derryveagh Mountains are easily accessible as are the many walking trails in Glenveagh National Park. Unique Ascent is a company based in the region that offers rock and sea stack climbing.
The nearest village to Carrickfinn is Annagry which has a supermarket, pubs, hotel and the renowned Dannie Minnie’s restaurant. There are scenic 9 hole golf courses on Cruit Island and in Gweedore. The fabulous Dunlewey Centre (20km) has a range of indoor and outdoor play facilities as well as riding stables.
Recommended day trips from the holiday home include Glenveagh National Park, Arranmore and Tory Islands, the historic Walled City of Derry and Glencolmcille/Slieve League
Each year a number of major festivals and events take place in the Carrickfinn region including the Mary from Dungloe Festival, the Burtonport Summer Festival, the Donegal Shore Festival in Kincasslagh and Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair

The original one school room now serves as the living room. The character has been maintained with the original granite fireplace and school desks. Turf is supplied for the fire. Other artefacts include roll books, schoolbooks and photographs. Fro home entertainment there is a tv and dvd player - mobile broadband is also available.
A balcony overlooks the living room and serves as a reading or games area.
The kitchen is well equipped for a self catering holiday. Appliances available include dishwasher, cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave.
