Slí an Earagail
Slí an Earagail is one of the main sections of the 280km Slí Dhún na nGall that covers much of the Gaeltacht area of west County Donegal. Slí an Earagail is a circular and relatively flat route that is named after Mount Errigal (751m), whose conical, grey-streaked quartzite summit is frequently visible along the walking route, even from the coastal stretches.

Slí an Earagail :: A National Waymarked Way
The Slí an Earagail waymarked way is richly varied and traverses through landscapes that represent the best in Donegal scenery, including a path through moorland just beneath Errigal, stretches beside two beautiful lakes – Lough Nacung and Dunlewey Lough – as well as sections along spectacular island-scattered Atlantic sea coast of north west Donegal.
The route consists of a mixture of forestry, countryside and coastal scenes viewed from tracks and minor roads. The walk encompasses the thriving Gaeltacht Region of the north western corner of the county in the parishes of Gaoth Dobhair and Cloich Cheann Fhaola.
Total aggregate ascent over the entire route is 720m and the total distance is 77km. At Gweedore station there is a 4.5 km connection to another of the Donegal walks, Sli na Rosann, by way of a link that is partly on a busy road.

Slí Ghabla (Gola Island) and Slí Thoraí (Tory Island)
There are in addition two island ‘links’ to Slí an Earagail that are well worth including – one on the rugged and legend-rich island of Tory, and the other on the tiny island of Gola. Both islands are accessible by ferry during the summer months – ferrys departing from Magheroarty and Bunbeg. The walks on the Islands are short but the scenery is beautiful. The island walks will provide the walker with an insight and appreciation of the way of life of islanders in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
