The spectacular coastal looped walk, the McSwynes Gun Loop, is the result of thee local agencies working together with the local community to benefit tourism in the region. These include Fáilte Ireland; Donegal Local Development Company; Inga Bock; local Donegal community landowners and the Sheephaven Bay Tourism Group.

The new looped route, located at Horn Head, Dunfanaghy, is part of Fáilte Irelands continued work to develop and support walking attractions across the country to attract both local and international visitors to such areas. The route, which will greatly benefit the town of Dunfanaghy, offers walkers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular surroundings and natural beauty of the peninsula and is intended to suit all levels of fitness catering for both the occasional and leisure walker.

Paul McLoone, Fáilte Irelands Head of Operations in the North West explained –

“Walking in Ireland has never been more popular for both domestic and overseas visitors and it is wonderful to see the development of this walking trail in a coastal area as stunning as Horn Head. It is one of the best coastal day routes in the country and will help attract visitors not only to the town of Dunfanaghy but the County of Donegal.

We have been working in partnership with Inga Bock, the Rural Recreation Officer with Donegal Local Development Company to support the project and this is a great example of local agencies and community working together for the benefit of tourism.”
