About Adrian

I started kayaking at the age of fifteen in October 1984. I have been coaching since 1986 – you do the maths!!! Since starting I have come through the BCU coaching scheme to leave me extremely well qualified to run all courses and to meet all needs. My favourite discipline was white water which has taken me all round Ireland, Scotland, the South French Alps, Italy and Austria. Out of all these places I prefer the French Alps. In my white water travels round Ireland there was not always white water so we hit the surf beaches of the north and west coast. As I got a bit older I realised that surf was also unreliable so I began sea kayaking.

Still to this day I have a great love for sea kayaking – there is nothing like a day on Inishtrahull, Ireland’s most northerly island – and this is a trip that not just anybody can make. Over the years I have paddled all of the North coast, a lot of the West coast and all of the main Irish islands. For coaching I work with Foyle Paddlers Canoe Club and I have been a member of this club since 1984.

I have also worked for BCU, Tollymore Mountain Centre and lots more besides. So if you want to get out on the water, explore the coast and rivers, learn new skills and meet new people, give us a call!

  • Star Awards – Coaching Courses – Star Awards
  • Assessments and training as you need them!

Half Day Course

These half day introduction sessions are a superb way to find out about kayaking. This will consist of all the basic strokes to help you control the kayak. We will learn about equipment, launching & landing, basic paddle strokes & capsize drill. By the end of the lesson you will be in full control and we can then move on to some games. If you have several of these lessons we will move on with the progression to suit you and the group.

One Day Lesson

The morning will be structured in a similar way to the half day course, but after lunch we will move on to a short trip to put into practise the skills learned in the morning session, and to change the scenery.

One Day Guided Trips

In summer these can be sea kayaking trips to suit you and your ability – they can also be beach trips where we will try surf kayaking, teaching you all the skills you need to catch your first wave. From October to April we can run river trips from beginner to experienced. These trips will involve a lot of learning and fun, and you will see a lot of natural beauty which can often go unnoticed along the banks of our local rivers.

Watersports expert revamps Moville eyesore

A Moville kayaking expert is breathing new life into a 1950s building that had become a dangerously derelict eyesore on the town’s shore front.
Adrian Harkin has taken a five-year lease on the building that once facilitated the diving boards at Bath Green and has turned it into a water and outdoor pursuits centre. The attractive building, with its curved and arc-shaped lines, was designed by the late Greencastle architect Liam McCormick. Read more
