Glashedy Rock from Ballyliffin Golf Club

The imposing Glashedy Rock (Gláis-éidigh – Green garment) is located in Pollan Bay just of the north Inishowen coastline. If you play either of the 2 courses at Ballyliffin Golf Club, several of the holes have panoramic views over the Bay towards the rock.

The rock has an approximate circumference of 1 mile. Glashedy is an uninhabited island and was formally called Seale Island – it’s name was changed to Glashedy in the early 19th century.

Although the island is mainly rock, there is an expanse of grass covering it’s top and it’s from this that its name is derived (glas being the Irish for green).
