The Limehouse Killybegs

Set on a private wooded site with natural waterfalls, it provides the ideal haven for anyone desiring a relaxing break in a unique setting. It is located one and a half miles from the fishing port of Killybegs.

With extensive grounds, the Limehouse affords privacy in a beautiful unspoilt area and is less than a ten minute walk from Fintra beach which has blue flag status. Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring the beautiful county of Donegal. – Near the coast and less than half an hour’s drive from the highest marine sea cliffs in Europe, the majestic Slieve League, – with Glencolmcille to the west and Donegal to the east, it is centrally located for touring and sight seeing by land or sea.

Old Lime Kiln

The Limehouse gets its name from the old lime kiln beside the house. A set of stone steps lead up to the orchard with its plum and apple trees. Wander up the path through the orchard and enjoy views of the water rushing through the sluice gates, – a reminder of times past when a mill was to be constructed for the Fintra estate.

The three way split of the river at the gates gives access to a little island mid-stream that is covered in a lush carpet of bluebells in May and June.

The house itself is perched on the bend of the river and is surrounded by a timber deck overhanging the river on two sides, affording beautiful views of the waterfalls. Traditional in style, the one and a half storey cottage boasts many unusual features. The entrance hall and kitchen have flag flooring, and timber is used throughout the remainder of the house.

A fantastic house in a wonderful location! We have enjoyed every minute it’s just a shame we only had a week here. We will miss sitting out with a glass of wine and watching the dippers going up the waterfall on an evening- just as much as waking up opening the bedroom doors and hearing the sound of the water in the morning. The beach at Fintra is fantastic and the Clocktower is great for a meal. Slieve League is not to be missed-but pick a good day! All in all just great!

This is out fourth stay in this magical house in such an enchanting setting. We have been coming to Killybegs for years as my mother’s family live here- but we have never found anywhere as comfortable and welcoming as the Limehouse.

Tom and Anne – I had such high expectations for this place and the lovely Limehouse surpassed them all. Despite the bad weather for all three days we had a wonderful time. Anne you’ve done such a lovely job decorating- enchanting.
