The Ballyshannon Drama Society host the annual Ballyshannon Drama Festival. The first Festival was held in 1952 making Ballyshannon Festival one of the oldest in Ireland. From the beginning the festival has been well supported by the general public and the local business community. One of the features of the festival has been the large number of Season Ticket holders who have supported the festival over the years.

Along with the Allingham Arts Festival, The Ballyshannon Drama Festival is a mainstay of the cultural calendar in Ballyshannon. The festival is held each year, usually in mid March. It hosts nine nights of serious and comedy drama featuring the works of Irish and world known writers. The dramas take place nightly in the Abbey Arts Centre.
The Ballyshannon Drama Festival is affiliated to the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland. Drama groups qualify from the festival to compete in the All Ireland Open Finals sponsored by RTE
